Conformity Assessment — Glossary

·

What it means

A conformity assessment is the process of checking whether an AI system meets the requirements that apply to it, and producing the evidence to show it. For an AI agent, that usually means reviewing its intended use and risk level, testing how it behaves, checking its documentation and controls, and recording what was checked and what was found. It is how a team moves from believing a system is ready to being able to show why it is ready.

Why it matters for governance

It matters for governance because it turns readiness from a claim into evidence that can be reviewed, questioned, and re-checked when the system changes.

Example

Before launching a higher-risk AI agent, a team gathers its technical documentation, runs its pre-launch checks, records the results, and fixes the gaps it finds before the agent goes live.
